More CC Applications

In addition to Syngas Treatment, CCUS deployment, and Biomethane in the biobased industry, various industrial applications demand a highly selective CO₂ Removal System. The GT processes have proven to be successful in meeting this requirement.

DRI Reactor Off-Gas

In the steelmaking Direct Reduction Iron process, a syngas (a mixture of CO and H₂) produced from either coal or natural gas serves as the reducing gas to convert iron ore to iron, eliminating oxygen from the mineral. During this conversion, CO and H₂ undergo partial conversion to CO₂ and H₂O. Generally, the off-gas from the DRI process undergoes a CO₂ removal step to enable recycling after integration with a fresh syngas stream back to the iron reactor.

In this process, our guidance is strengthened by the expertise derived from our 4 industrial references within this sector.

NG Sweetening

In the Natural Gas Sweetening process, it is crucial to remove H₂S and/or CO₂ to meet pipeline specifications, thereby eliminating acidic components from the gas and enhancing its calorific value. This process is fundamental to ensure that natural gas meets the required standards for optimal transportation and utilization. The removal of unwanted elements not only improves the gas quality but also preserves the integrity of transportation infrastructure and optimizes energy efficiency throughout the supply chain.

Additionally, our approach in this sector is enriched by knowledge derived from our 3 industrial references, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of this process.

Gasification of Waste and Coal

Gasification is a transformative technology that converts carbonaceous feedstocks like coal, heavy oil, biomass, or waste materials into a gas mixture primarily consisting of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen (H₂), and carbon dioxide (CO₂). This resulting syngas can be utilized as a valuable feedstock for a range of applications, including power generation, chemical production, and synthetic fuel manufacturing. An essential step in these processes involves the removal of CO₂ from the syngas, a crucial requirement to ensure the gas meets compliance standards for subsequent treatment.

In this sector, we draw upon insights from our 8 industrial references to continually enhance and optimize these gasification processes.

Recycled Gas from EO & VAM Units

Ethylene Oxide (EO) is derived from the oxidation of ethylene, whereas Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) is typically synthesized through the catalytic reaction of acetic acid and ethylene. Both of these processes generate CO₂ as a byproduct, which acts as a catalyst poison, diminishing the efficiency of the production process. Therefore, it is essential to manage and control CO₂ levels by implementing a CO₂ removal system for the recycling side stream gas.

Additionally, within this sector, our processes benefit from valuable information gathered from 1 industrial reference, allowing for continuous improvement.

Tail Gas from PSA Units

The Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) process, when employed for CO₂ removal from process gases (as in H₂ productions), produces a tail gas abundant in CO₂. This gas stream contains valuable molecules such as H₂ or CH₄, which are typically either burned or wasted. Implementing HPC Carbon Capture on these streams enables the recovery of a high-purity CO₂ stream, thereby augmenting the calorific value of the overall off-gas stream. This process helps enhance CO₂ purity to 99.9% and optimize separation efficiency.
